On Friday April 2nd Clive Cornish hauled his cross to the summit of Ben Nevis the highest mountain in the British Isles. The 4409 feet (1344m) climb took over 14 hours and afterwards Clive said, “It was hard, in fact it was probably one of the most strenuous things I have accomplished.” One translation of Ben Nevis is Mountain of Heaven and Clive hopes his efforts will highlight the strenuous and difficult path taken taken by Jesus who died on a cross to show his love for us.
During the ascent Clive talked with climbers from around the world and several commented how God had blessed Clive with perfect weather.
He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them.
Mark 14:33-
And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Luke 22:44
Easter 2010....
Clive had planned to climb Scafell Pike and Snowden over the Easter weekend but a change in the weather conditions made it to treacherous to continue. With aching muscles and a tired body Clive felt an inner peace with this decision. believing he had achieved what God had asked him to do.
